How to Replace the Steam Wand

Instructions on How to Replace the Steam Wand
- T10 Torx screwdriver
- PH2 Phillips head screwdriver
- Two adjustable wrenches, or 25 mm and 26 mm wrenches
- Angled, pointy-tip tweezers
Step 1: Power Disconnection
For DE1XL or DE1XXL Models:
- Remove the back panel.
- Turn off the machine's back switch.
- Unplug the power cord.
For DE1PRO and DE1PLUS Models:
- Turn off the machine's back switch.
- Unplug the power cord.
Step 2: Remove External Components
For Version 1.43 or Higher (Slide-in Tablet Stand):
- Unplug the USB cable.
- Gently pull the tablet stand out.
For Version 1.3 to 1.42 (Screwed-in Tablet Stand):
- Unscrew the screws holding the tablet stand.
- Remove the stand.
Then…
- Remove the drip tray.
- Remove the drip tray cover.
- Lift the lever on the back of the machine.
- Slide the water tank out and remove it.
- Remove the portafilter.
- Remove the group head handle.
Step 3: Remove the Main Cover
- Use a T10 screwdriver to remove the 8 screws securing the main cover.
- Gently stretch the sides of the cover outward.
- Lift the cover off the machine.
Step 4: Remove the Steam Wand
- Hold the inside nut with an adjustable wrench or a 25 mm wrench.
- Hold the outside nut with another adjustable wrench or a 26 mm wrench.
- Loosen the nuts.
- Remove the clip securing the steam tube inside the machine.
- Pull the steam tube out.
- While holding the outside nut, unscrew the inside nut by hand.
- Pull the steam wand out from the outside of the machine.
- Remove the white spacer remaining inside the machine.
Step 5: Mount the New Steam Wand
- Unscrew the brass nut from the new steam wand.
- Remove the white spacer.
- Insert the steam wand through the hole.
- Place the white spacer back inside the machine.
- Screw the brass nut on by hand.
- Install a new O-ring onto the end of the steam tube.
- Push the O-ring in until it reaches the brass ring.
- Insert the tube into its connector using a gentle circular motion.
- Turn the outside nut to align the clip slot vertically.
- Reinstall the clip.
- Use two wrenches to tighten the inside nut fully.
