How to Apply Grease to the Steam Wand
In this video, we'll show you how to apply grease to the steam wand.
This is necessary when the steam wand movement becomes stiff.

Instructions on how to apply grease to the steam wand
- 2 x Adjustable wrenches or 22mm and 26mm wrenches.
- Food-grade lubricant grease rated at over 200ºC.
- Cloth
- Comfort Grip Gloves
Step 1: Power Disconnection
For DE1XL or DE1XXL Models:
- Remove the back panel.
- Turn off the machine's back switch.
- Unplug the power cord.
For DE1PRO and DE1PLUS Models:
- Turn off the machine's back switch.
- Unplug the power cord.
Step 2: Remove External Components
For v1.43 or higher (slide-in tablet stand):
- Unplug the USB cable.
- Gently pull the tablet stand out.
For v1.3 to v1.42 (screwed-in tablet stand):
- Unscrew the 3 screws holding the tablet stand.
- Remove the stand.
Then…
- Remove the portafilter.
- Remove the group head handle.
Step 3: Disassemble the Steam Wand
- Warning: If you have just finished steaming, allow the steam wand and top nuts to cool completely before starting.
- Hold the outside nut with an adjustable wrench or a 26 mm wrench, and use another adjustable wrench or a 22 mm wrench to loosen the ball joint nut.
- Fully unscrew the ball joint nut by hand. Wear comfort-grip gloves if you need extra grip.
- Inside the ball joint nut, locate the steam wand joint and remove the spring carefully.
Step 4: Apply Lubricant Grease
Using a cloth, apply food-grade grease to the rounded end of the steam wand and to the end of the spring where it contacts the joint.
Step 5: Assemble the Steam Wand
- Place the spring back into position and set the joint on top of it.
- Position the rounded end of the steam wand onto the joint, press the wand inward to compress the spring, and engage the thread
- Screw the ball joint nut on by hand
- Then hold the outside nut and secure the ball joint nut with the wrenches.
