We have released a new version of Half Decent Scale firmware with new features and stability improvements:
The new firmware, version 3.0.0 brings the scale web apps on to the scale directly. You can use them with any browser, also on iOS devices - by using the Half Decent Scale WiFi connection. The new WiFi connection type is also supported by the PyDecentScale library and so any apps that use it, automatically will have wifi support.
Of course using WiFi is not mandatory and can be turned off, to save on battery. You can turn it on only when you wish to perform Over The Air, or WiFi firmware updates. Note: The WiFi module on HDS only works with 2.4GHz WiFi.
Additionally, we have changed the time intervals for button presses slightly, as well as added a power off option by long pressing the O button, making the use of HDS a bit more ergonomic.

And to learn how you can use WiFi and Web sockets with Half Decent Scale, to create your own apps, check the primer and web apps in the Half Decent Scale code repository.
We recommend using the wired method for updating from v2.7.6 to v3.0.0. First, you will need to download the new firmware files from Github. You can find them under the firmware releases page, or on github. Then, to perform the actual upgrade, follow the instructions. described in the Readme.
