Smart Espresso Profiler (SEP)
On Android and iOS, you can use the Smart Espresso Profiler (SEP) app to control your DE1. This is a completely different program from the de1app, oriented toward real-time control. DE1 integration was done in collaboration with Gabor and Miklos from SEP, who also have their own DE1 espresso machines.

SEP helps you imitate famous classic espresso machines, using the the Group Head Controller on the DE1. You must have a GHC on your DE1 to use it.
Here is an example of how it works:
As of April 2021, SEP is pre-installed on the tablet supplied by Decent.
If you have an earlier DE1, you can install SEP yourself, in one of these ways:
or you can download version 2.50.9 (or newer) from https://github.com/decentespresso/de1plus_misc/tree/main/android/sep. You will need "adb" installed on your computer (connected to your tablet via a USB cable) https://developer.android.com/studio/command-line/adb and then run the command "adb install-multiple .apk" on your computer.
If you own an Acaia (or other) bluetooth scale, the SEP software can connect to it, and your experience will be improved by that, as there'll now be an "espresso weight" line drawn when make espresso.
The first time you run SEP, you will be asked to give your approval to the things on your Android tablet, that it wants to access. You will need to ACCEPT this.
Next, you will need to configure SEP to connect to your DE1.
First, exit the de1app. You must exit the de1app, otherwise the DE1 will remain locked to it in the background, and not available to connect to SEP.
Tap on the three line icon on the top left, and choose "Devices" :
Then, tap on the DE1. A spinning icon will indicate a BLE connection attempt:
And it will hopefully connect.
Do the same with a scale, if you have one. Note that a scale connection is optional, and not required in order to use SEP.
Tap on the menu icon again, and choose "Brew" :
The icon on the bottom right will show a DE1 (if connected) and the status, which here is "IDLE: Heating”
When your DE1 is warmed:
Tap the chart icon on the right hand side:
And choose one of the profiles you want to load:
You're now ready to make espresso!
Tap the ESPRESSO icon on your DE1 Group Head Controller.
Put your finger around 1pm on the GHC to start water flowing. You'll see a red dot move rightwards in time.
Move your finger around the circular GHC of the DE1, in order to match the pressure line of this espresso profile.
Tap the center STOP button on the GHC to end your espresso.

The APKPure app is an alternative way to install Android apps that works on all Android tablets.
You can google "apkpure" from your tablet's web browser, or just visit https://apkpure.com/and click on the download button. Then, you'll need to install the APK by looking at your download folder.
Once you install APKPure, you will need to give it permissions. I searched for "espresso" and found SEP on the list:
tapping INSTALL caused it to download:
I had to give Android permission to let APKPure install unknown apps, and then I was given this message:
I tapped INSTALL, and then:
You will likely be shown some ads while the app install process occurs.
Finally, I looked at the apps, and there is now a "SE Profiler" icon (with a coffee bean).
