Inside the folder, you should see these four files:
bootloader.bin – starts up the device
partitions.bin – tells the device how to organise its memory
firmware.bin – the main software for the device
littlefs.bin – holds the web apps running on Half Decent Scale
With the Wi-Fi update, only two files are needed:
firmware.bin
littlefs.bin
2. Make sure WiFi is enabled on your Half Decent Scale
Enter “HDS Setup” mode, by pressing and holding both the O and the buttons until “HDS Setup” appears.
Navigate to the “WiFi Settings” menu entry and select it by pressing the button
Select the “WiFi On” menu entry. The display will show: “WiFi enabled, restart Scale”
Exit the menu and turn the scale off and on again.
3. Connect to the Half Decent Scale with your browser
If you did not configure the Wi-Fi settings before, Half Decent Scale will create its own Wi-Fi network.
Find the “Decent Scale” Wi-Fi network on your device and connect to it. The “Decent Scale” Wi-Fi password is “12345678”.
If you have previously configured the WiFi settings for HDS to connect to your existing WiFi network, check that the chain link icon (⛓️) is displayed next to the Bluetooth indicator on the scale display.
Make sure that the device to which you downloaded the firmware files is connected to the same network as HDS.
Open the address http://hds.local in your preferred browser and select “Firmware update”
4. Upload the filesystem partition first
Once you are on the firmware update page, make sure you select SPIFFS/LittleFS in the OTA Mode dropdown.
Find and select the file littlefs.bin from the file picker. The upload will start automatically. Progress will also be displayed on the scale.
The scale will restart itself once the upload is complete.
If you used the “Decent Scale” network to connect to the scale, you need to reconnect to the “Decent Scale” Wi-Fi network on your device
Reload the browser window to view the Half Decent Scale homepage, then select 'Firmware Update' again.
5. Update the firmware partition last
On the firmware update page, verify that 'Firmware' is selected in the 'OTA Mode' dropdown.
Click “Select File” and select the file firmware.bin in the system file picker. The upload will start automatically.
Once the upload is complete, the scale will restart.
6. (Optional) turn off WiFi to save battery
After successfully updating to the new firmware version, you can turn off WiFi on HDS, to save battery life.
Restart the scale in HDS Setup mode.
Navigate to Wifi Settings.
Select the WiFi Off option.
Restart the scale by exiting the menu and double-tapping the O button quickly.
On firmware version 3.0.0, you can also restart the scale by pressing and holding the O button on the main screen.
