A new version of the “stable” DE1app is now available.
Get this latest DE1app version by going to “Settings->App->App Update” and pressing the “Update” button. The previous stable version was v1.43, released in January 2024.
Here's what's new!
App improvements:
Brand new Streamline Skin, designed by Pulak and programmed by John, inspired by Johanna's MimojaCafe. The goal is “one tap to do everything you normally need to”. Simplicity and speed. Though it might look minimalist, it took 14 months for the two of us to complete this. The Streamline “look and feel” will continue to be applied to the rest of the DE1App, as Pulak and I are working on redoing everything that's in “Settings”. Damian's easy Graphical Flow Calibrator extension and per-profile “flow calibration”. You no longer need a special portafilter basket, or a special process, to get perfect flow calibrations. The extensions lets you tap UP and DOWN arrows until the brown (scale) and blue (pump) lines touch, and that's all there is to it. You can then decide whether you want this as your new default calibration, for all profiles. Or, you can save this calibration setting to be automatically loaded with just that profile. This means each profile can have its own appropriate flow calibration. For some of you who obsess about achieving good flow calibration, this will be a major feature for you. Both DSX and Streamline skin integrate directly with this new feature.
Auto-load your favorite profile, when your DE1app wakes from sleep. Very useful, if you want to “reset to default” for your morning espresso, without having to think.
MQTT extension, allowing you connect your DE1 to home automation systems.
Describe Your Espresso (DYE) had several releases, including many features and deep integration for Damian's DSx2.
Enrique's DUI toolkit (the user interface toolkit for the DE1app) added many new features, to support both DSx2 and Streamline. In Streamline extensive use of long-taps (hold a preset button to clear it, hold again to set it) and double-taps (double tap a preset to edit that profile. There are animation now when you tap buttons.
The D-Flow profile (and its editor) is now available to all skins. Previously, it was hidden if you weren't using DSX or DSx2.
No more Android Permission problems. Now, the DE1app checks that you have given the app the right permissions, and if not, pops up an Android System Dialog Box, that asks you to grant them. Previously, with each Android version (and different vendors) putting security settings in different places, it was often difficult to figure out what permissions you needed to grant the app, if you were using your own Android tablet.
Support for BOOKOO mini scale
Adaptive Profile (for medium roasts) is now “Adaptive v2”, because it has been changed to now also work well with light roasts.
Your DE1 is now set to fast “cafe mode” settings by default, unless you had changed the heater settings yourself. This will greatly shorten the time between “tapping the espresso-start button” and the espresso actually starting.
New “reset profile to default” feature allows you to modify and save the factory-provided profiles, without needing to rename them. This also removes the problem of creating tons of “Unnamed #2” profiles or copies of the built in profiles with a #2 appended on them.
Simple Pressure and Flow profiles now have a “stop at weight” up to 2000g.
New disable user interface sounds by default.
