How to replace the DE1 wand with the BengleWand on V1.1 DE1 models

In this guide, we'll show you how to replace the original DE1 steam wand with the new BengleWand on v1.1 Decent Espresso (DE1) models.

BengleWand installation guide for V1.1 DE1 machines

Tools required

  • T10 torx screwdriver
  • 26mm, 25mm spanners or 2 x adjustable wrench
  • Comfort grip gloves
  • Straight tip tweezers
  • 5.5mm hex nut driver
  • Nippers

  • Step  1: Power disconnection


    For DE1XL or DE1XXL models:

    1. Remove the back panel.
    2. Turn off the machine's back switch.
    3. Unplug the power cord.


    For DE1PRO and DE1PLUS models:

    1. Turn off the machine's back switch.
    2. Unplug the power cord.

    Step  2: Remove external components

    1. Remove the tablet and tablet stand.
    2. Remove the drip tray.
    3. Remove the drip tray cover.
    4. Remove the portafilter.
    5. Remove the group head handle.

    Step  3: Remove the main cover

    1. Use a T10 screwdriver to remove the 8 screws securing the main cover.
    2. Gently stretch the sides of the cover outward.
    3. Lift the cover off the machine.

    Step 4: Remove the tube or angled fitting

    1. Use straight-tip tweezers to remove the clip holding the steam tube or angled fitting in the steam wand connector.
    2. Pull out the tube or fitting from the connector.

    Step  5: Remove the steam wand from the machine

    1. Hold the outside nut with a 26mm spanner and the inside nut with a 25mm spanner (or use adjustable wrenches) to loosen the inside nut.
    2. Once loosened, fully unscrew the inside nut by hand.
    3. Pull the steam wand forward to remove it from the machine.

    Step 6: Remove the flow meter

    1. Put on the comfort-grip gloves and pull the tubes off the flow meter.
    2. Use a 5.5mm hex nut driver to remove the two nuts securing the flow meter bracket.
    3. Remove the flow meter along with its bracket, and unplug the cable from its board.
    4. Disconnect the flow meter cable from the DC board and remove the cable entirely.

    Step  7: Disconnect the uptake pipe

    1. Cut the cable tie holding the water level sensor cable and intake tube together.
    2. Lift the uptake group and pull the tube out of the uptake pipe.

    Step  8: Connect the pump tube


    Connect the end of the pump tube to the uptake pipe's barb connector.


    Step  9: Route the steam tube

    1. Optionally, pass the steam tube through the sleeve and slide the sleeve into place.
    2. Pass the tube through the hole in the manifold bracket.

    Step  10: Install the BengleWand

    1. Take the BengleWand and remove its inside nut using your fingers.
    2. Pass the wand's connector through the hole in the front panel, then hand-tighten the inside nut.

    Step  11: Reconnect the tube

    1. Fit the O-ring onto the end of the tube.
    2. Insert the tube into the connector, gently pushing it in with a circular motion until it is fully seated.
    3. Install the clip to lock the tube in place.
