DYE2 ("Describe Your Espresso 2") is the shot log for Decaid. It keeps a record of every shot you pull, with the coffee, grinder, grind setting, rating and tasting notes, and it lets you save recipes and favourites that you can bring back with one tap.
DYE2 works together with the Streamline skin. Once it is switched on, tap the DYE button at the top right of the Streamline home screen to open it.
DYE2 comes with Decaid, so you normally don't need to install anything. If it is missing, you can add it like any other plugin: here's how to install plugins in Decaid.
To turn it on in Streamline:
If the DYE2 plugin isn't installed or is too old, Streamline tells you and offers an Install button.
When DYE2 is on, two things appear at the top of the Streamline home screen: the DYE button, and three small round buttons on the left marked P, F and R. These switch the row of buttons next to them between your Profiles (P), your Favourites (F) and your Recipes (R).
If you ever need to leave a screen and get back to Decaid's own dashboard, here's how to get back to the dashboard in Decaid.
The DYE2 dashboard is split in two:
At the bottom of the left side are three buttons:
Open DYE2 after your shot. The newest shot is on the left. Tap a star to rate it. The rating is saved straight away, there is no extra step.
To add a tasting note, measure TDS and extraction, or correct the coffee or grind, tap Edit Shot (see "Edit a past shot" below). Read Note shows the note saved with the shot.
On the right side:
Use the − and + buttons to change a number, or tap the number once and type a new value. The keyboard opens on the first tap. Press Enter to accept, or tap somewhere else, which also accepts what you typed.
Most changes on the right side are saved as you make them. DONE saves and closes DYE2, CANCEL closes it.
Two buttons in the top right corner of the right side are handy:
Clear empties the next-shot settings. Like the clipboard copy, it only takes effect when you press DONE.
Use the ‹ and › arrows at the top of the left side to step through your shots. DYE2 can reach your whole history. Older shots are loaded as you go, so the first step past the most recent shots may pause for a moment.
The button between the arrows switches between All Shots and Same Beans. Same Beans only shows shots made with the same coffee from the same roaster as the shot on screen.
Tap the magnifying glass to search. You can type in the search box to look for any word in the coffee name, roaster, profile, grinder or tasting notes.
Below the search box are filters for Bean, Roaster, Grinder, Profile and Rating:
The title at the top shows where you are in the results, for example "1/8". A small dot on the magnifying glass reminds you that a search or filter is active.
The shot editor lets you fix or complete the details of any shot: dose, drink weight, TDS and extraction yield, beans, grinder, grind setting, RPM, feed rate, basket, equipment, barista, drinker, tasting notes and rating.
There are two ways to open it:
Things to know in the shot editor:
A recipe stores a complete set of settings for a drink: the profile, the coffee, dose, drink weight, brew temperature, steam, flush, hot water, the grinder, grind setting, RPM and feed rate, plus barista and drinker.
Up to five recipes can have their own button. The same five buttons, in the same order, appear in two places:
All your other recipes are kept in your recipe library.
Tap a recipe button. Its settings are loaded straight away, including its profile.
If the recipe has no coffee set, loading it clears the coffee, roaster and bag from your next shot. That way a shot is never logged under the coffee from the recipe you used before.
After you load a recipe, its button stays highlighted. If you then change something, such as the dose, grind, profile, basket, or the steam, flush or hot water settings, a * appears after the recipe name. It means your current settings no longer match the recipe.
Your changes are not written into the recipe on their own. A one-off change stays a one-off. To keep what you dialled in, long press the recipe's button on the Streamline R row and choose Save changes. Only the values you actually changed are saved.
The same long press menu also offers Edit in DYE2, Replace (put a different recipe from your library on this button) and Clear button (take the recipe off the button; it stays in your library).
Open DYE Settings → Recipes. You see all your recipes as cards.
In the recipe editor:
DYE2 builds favourites for you from your shot history. Each auto-favourite is a combination of coffee, profile and grinder you have used recently. They are ranked by how well you rated those shots and how recently and often you made them. You don't need to do anything to create them.
The top four appear on the F row at the top of the Streamline home screen. Tap one to load it. The fifth button, VIEW ALL AUTO FAV, opens the full list in DYE2.
You can also open the list from DYE Settings → Favourites. The buttons at the top group the favourites by Beans, Recipe, Profile or Grinder. Tap a card to select it and CONFIRM to load it.
Normally the four buttons on the F row change as your shot history changes. To keep a favourite in a fixed spot:
The favourite now stays in that position, and the other positions keep filling with your best recent auto-favourites. Only one favourite can hold each number. If you pick a number that is already taken, the favourite that had it loses its spot.
In the same screen you can give the favourite a title and a beverage, and under Data to Copy choose exactly what it loads. Each row has its own switch, so a favourite can, for example, load a grind setting and profile without changing your coffee. The pencil at the end of a row lets you type a value by hand.
On the Streamline F row, a long press on a favourite offers Edit in DYE2, Save to recipes (turn it into a recipe in your library) and Clear button.
To open your grinder library, tap the word Grind on the right side of the DYE2 dashboard (the label, not the number). Tap ADD NEW GRINDER to add one, or tap a grinder to edit it.
To go straight to one grinder, press and hold its name in the row of grinder names on the DYE2 dashboard.
A grinder records its model (the only required field), burrs, burr type and size, setting type, step sizes, a Feed Rate and notes. Feed rate is free text, so you can write what suits your grinder, for example "FF / MF / SF" for a manual feed or a feeder RPM range.
The feed rate you actually used for a shot goes in the Feed Rate field next to Setting and RPM in the shot editor and the recipe editor.
Tap the Beans card on the right side of the dashboard to open your coffee library.
DYE2 keeps one entry for each coffee and a separate entry for each bag you buy, so the same coffee bought twice keeps both roast dates.
These buttons are on screen but don't do anything yet, so you are not doing anything wrong:
