If your fan is not spinning when the machine is powered on, and you have already confirmed there is no obstruction of the fan blade, the fan power cable might have come loose. Here is how to check. [Note that these pictures are of a v1.1 machine. The green v1.0 DC PCB board has the fan connector in the same place.]
First things first, unplug your machine. You'll be looking/poking around inside the electrical and electronics compartment, which I'll refer to as the PCB compartment from here on out, so simply turning the machine off is not enough. Unplug the machine and remove the power cord, please.
Next, remove the machine cover. Use a torx driver to remove the eight T10 screws, four on each side of the machine. Gently slide the cover off, toward the front or back of the DE1, and set aside.
The PCB compartment top cover is held down by tape. Simply peel it back and remove it as shown in the following 2 pics:
Now that the top cover is removed this is what you will see inside the compartment:
Inside the compartment you'll see the tops of the Meanwell PSU which provides DC power, the AC PCB which contains the AC circuitry and connectors feeding the water and steam heaters, group heater, and pumps, and finally the DC PCB which houses the PCU, BLE Module, and RJ45 Port, and also contains the circuitry and connectors feeding the valve solenoids and all of the temp and pressure sensors.
The fan connector is located on the DC PCB, which is the right side PCB mounted to the back wall of the chassis inside the PCB compartment, seen from the barista's eye view, as noted in pic above. The connector is located on the bottom left hand corner of the DC PCB. Here is a picture of the front side of the v1.1 DC PCB removed from the machine to help you better visualize what you're looking for:
If you look down into the compartment with a flashlight it is possible to see this connector and the fan wire, though it will be somewhat obscured by the USB wire and connector just above it, so it's best to look in on an angle from the left side of the machine. This is what you're looking for:
If you can't quite see the connector, or aren't quite sure if you see the right thing, or you do see it and it looks loose or disconnected, proceed to the next step, which will allow a much better sight line and physical access to the fan connector. Here you will remove the PCU Compartment side panel to which the Meanwell PSU is mounted. It is very simple, just remove the three screws (#2 Phillips interface) and then gently lay the whole panel down next to your machine base, as pictured here:
Now you'll be able to see the fan connector much more easily, and be able to get fingers in to reconnect if it has been jogged free. Obviously, be careful of sharp edges and inadvertently knocking other connections free. Using blunt-tipped forceps here can make accessing and manipulating these cables easier.
