Owners of v1.0 DE1, and most v1.1 DE1 machines, have Android 5.1 tablets. At the end of v1.1, and from then on (v1.3...onwards) we switched to Android 8. We're now even at a later Android version.
If you ever logged into your google account, on your Android 5.1 tablet, it is likely that your tablet is now running very slowly.
The 5.1 tablets are NOT powerful enough to run the latest google bloated updates.
OTA updates are not just security updates, they also contain tons of google frameworks and services.
The Android 5.1 tablet is very reliable, if you leave it alone.
Don't log into google, don't update it, and if you're worried about security, then only connect it to wifi when doing App updates.
If your tablet is slow, it is very likely that google has "improved" it with bloated updates that have overwhelmed its memory.
If that is the case with your tablet, reset it to factory settings and re-install the tablet software.
and your tablet will work well again. Believe me : this discussion has occurred many times on Diaspora, and this is the cure.
For those of you who have an Android 5.1 or later tablet and it's slow.
Maybe you logged into your google account, not realizing that would destroy the tablet's performance. :-(
The simplest no-fuss way to solve this is to buy our newest tablet. It comes pre-configured with the Decent Tablet app, and we've removed the google play store, so you can longer give google the keys to bloat the tablet up and make it function badly.

You can also buy your own tablet, and there's nothing wrong with that, but you will need to be technical enough to install the Decent tablet app yourself, from here https://decentespresso.com/downloads The other two options work well, but need a bit of technical skill and time:
