Blood and Sand
A blended Scotch whisky cocktail with orange juice, sweet vermouth, and cherry liqueur; lightly tart and sweet, it is about 14% ABV.
Orange juice and Cherry Heering replace the orange bitters, making it fruitier, sweeter, and less bitter, with less Scotch for a lighter, less boozy drink.

- Different: 1.5 oz Scotch instead of 2.5 oz; .5 oz sweet vermouth; orange juice and Cherry Heering instead of bitters; shaken instead of stirred; no garnish.
Martinez
A gin-based cocktail made with Old Tom gin, sweet vermouth, maraschino liqueur, and bitters. It has low acidity, is sweet, and is fairly strong at about 21% ABV.
Old Tom gin in place of the Scotch and the addition of maraschino make it sweeter, more floral, and less smoky-malty.
- Same: Dolin sweet vermouth and 2 dashes of bitters, stirred and strained into a chilled coupe.

Rusty Nail
A two-ingredient blended Scotch whisky cocktail made with Drambuie, a honey-and-herb liqueur. It contains no citrus juice, so has no acidity; it is sweet and fairly strong at about 28% ABV.
Drambuie in place of sweet vermouth and bitters makes it sweeter, with honey and herbal notes.
- Same: Famous Grouse blended Scotch, stirred.
- Different: 2 oz Scotch with .75 oz Drambuie instead of 2.5 oz with sweet vermouth and orange bitters; strained over a large cube in a rocks glass; no garnish.
Rack & Rye
A spirit-forward rye whiskey cocktail with Batavia arrack, Angostura and orange bitters, and citrus peels, sweetened with rock candy and demerara syrup. It has no acidity and is sweet, and strong at about 29% ABV.
Rye instead of Scotch and Batavia arrack with demerara syrup instead of sweet vermouth make it spicier, funkier, and sweeter, with extra dilution.
- Same: 2 dashes of Angostura orange bitters and a lemon twist, stirred.
