Decent Cocktails

Help

Everything you can do on Decent Cocktails: find a drink, read and resize its recipe, make it on the Half Decent Scale, and keep track of your bottles.

Choose a book

Decent Cocktails has the recipes from two great cocktail bar books, The PDT Cocktail Book and Death & Co: Modern Classic Cocktails. Pick one on the first page; the name at the top left takes you back to it from anywhere.

Many classics are in both books, often made a little differently. On a recipe, the other book's version is one click away.

Every ingredient has its own page: a photo of the bottle, what it's paired with most often, its substitutes, and every cocktail that uses it.

By spirit

On a book's home page, choose a base spirit and, if you like, something it's mixed with (gin with lemon, rum with lime) to see just those drinks. Spirits in the menu lists them all.

A recipe

Each recipe lists its ingredients in grams and ounces, with the glass, the garnish and the method, step by step. The facts panel shows how big, how strong and how sweet the drink is.

Making a round

Change the number of drinks and every amount follows, and so do the alcohol, sugar and total weight.

Less boozy

Tap the facts panel and type how much alcohol you want in your drink (or how big you want it, or how sweet). The whole recipe shrinks or grows to match.

Similar cocktails

Under each recipe are its closest cousins: the drinks in the book that share most of its ingredients. Each says what's the same, what's different and how it tastes by comparison.

Make it on the Half Decent Scale

With a Half Decent Scale, press Make this cocktail with the Half Decent Scale on a recipe and connect the scale (Chrome on a computer or Android phone; on an iPhone or iPad, install the free Beacio app first, then any browser works). Put your shaker or glass on: each step zeroes the scale and shows how much to pour, going green when you hit the target.

Missing ingredients

Once Your Bar knows your bottles, every cocktail shows what you're missing. On a recipe, a missing ingredient comes with substitutes, marked when you already own them. You can also hide everything you can't make yet.

Wishlist and Made

Save cocktails to your Wishlist. Make one on the scale and it's marked Made, with the date; you can add a note about how it turned out. Your Bar shows both lists.
